Go Skateboarding Day is a worldwide event that takes place every year on June 21, and invites skateboarders to celebrate the sport by riding all day. In NYC, the festivities kicked off at the Maloof Skate Park at Flushing Meadows Park with a Red Bull Best Trick Contest and then traveled to Coleman Oval Park on Manhattan’s Lower East Side with trick contests sponsored by 5Boro NYC and CCS x Nike SB. The final destination for the day was the Nike SB Skate Safari Barge, which continued to host competitions throughout Saturday and Sunday.

As you can see from the video above, building the barge was no small effort and a lot of materials and energy went into it (which isn’t exactly green). But we were excited to learn that instead of just scrapping the park after the event, Nike told Gothamist that parts of the skate barge will be donated to a skate park in the Rockaways.
