If the last month has shown us anything, it’s that New Yorkers know how to mobilize in the face of disaster. We’ve been tracking numerous organizations [3] focused on bringing relief [4] to Hurricane Sandy [5] victims, and the latest to come out of the woodwork is Reclaim NYC [6]. The initiative, started by writer Jennifer Krichels Gorsche [7], Designer Pages [8]‘ Editor-in-chief Jean Lin, and designer Brad Ascalon [9], invited over 20 artists and designers to create one-of-a-kind furniture and objects using reclaimed materials from the storm. In about two weeks, the works will be put up for a silent auction and all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross in Greater New York [10] to benefit those still feeling the effects of Sandy. Check out our gallery for a sneak peek of what will be included in the auction, and stay tuned for more designs – including a piece from Inhabifriends [11] and reclaimed woodworkers extraordinaire Uhuru [12]! The Reclaim NYC silent auction will take place on December 19th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Ligne Roset’s SoHo showroom, located at 155 Wooster Street. Come out, see all the fantastic work, and open your pocketbooks for a good cause – we’ll see you there!
