This gorgeous, sprawling outdoor market has been an annual NY event for years, and it’s in full swing until December 24th. Millions of people are drawn to this event every year, and with good reason: you can find just about anything among the stalls, and a great deal of it is handmade by local artisans. Home decor pieces, clothes and accessories, DIY beer-brewing kits, scrumptious snackables, pet gear, and kids stuff abound, and be sure to try the baked goods and hot drinks available all around the market. (Union Square Park, bordered by Park Avenue South, Broadway and 14th Street, Open weekdays 11 a.m. – 8p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

December 6th and 7th will see the return of the Crafted at the Canal fair, where you can find countless one-of-a-kind gifts that are both thoughtful and responsible. This year’s market has “reuse” as its theme, and the 20+ vendors all incorporate reused and upcycled materials in their creations: you’ll find soy candles in recycled vessels, chalkboard items, a variety of bike accessories, DIY kits, and toys… just to name a few. Visitors over the age of 21 can enjoy free beer on Dec. 6th courtesy of Coney Island Brewery, and Stumptown Coffee Roasters are providing free coffee on Saturday the 7th. (Brooklyn Reuse Center, 69 9th St., Gowanus, NY. Greenpointers’ annual holiday market has over 70 local artists, artisans, and crafters sharing their amazing offerings this coming Sunday, and there will also be plenty of delicious locally made food and bevvies to nosh on as you shop around. You can try your hand at the Origami Ornaments craft table, nibble on some fresh pastries, and take a terrarium workshop for some DIY gifting glee. Central Park gets a bit more festive at this time of year, especially with the offerings you’ll discover at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market. You can find all kinds of handmade clothing, jewelry, and home decor pieces here, as well as wooden puzzles, baking kits, and gourmet food items like truffles and salsas. Bundle up, grab some friends, and enjoy some food from one of the many vendors as you shop around. (59th Street and Central Park West, near the park’s SW entrance. Grand Central Holiday Fair

Reminiscent of the huge Weihnachtsmarkts that pop up in Germany and Austria, Grand Central Terminal’s 14th annual Holiday Fair has over 70 vendors offering everything from art, clothing, and jewelry to edibles, toys, body products, and gifts for furred/feathered friends. The entire market is indoors, so you can peruse all of the wonderful items without having to brave the snow and slush outside. (15 Vanderbilt Avenue, Grand Central Station. Hey parents and PTA supporters: This Sunday, December 8th, Cobble Hill’s fifth annual “Eat Pie and Shop” event will offer everything from pie tasting to face painting while you shop for amazing items made by local artisans, craftspeople and merchants. The focus is on local, handmade, eco-friendly and sustainable gifts, a pie contest judged by celebrity chefs is one of the highlights of the day, and there will also be US Marines collecting donations for Toys for Tots.
