Gallery: Summer Streets Will Bring Zip-Lining and More to NYC Tomorrow!

If you missed last week's Summer Streets festival, don't worry - there's another chance to join in the fun this weekend! Tomorrow, New Yorkers will be treated to all kinds of fun outdoor activities on the pedestrian-friendly route - from Tai Chi to salsa lessons to a 160-foot-long zip line! If you can't make it this Saturday, Summer Streets will also take over Park Ave. on August 18th so mark your calendars.

This year’s free programming includes rock climbing at Spring Street, bike helmet fittings at 51st Street, and bike repairs at 25th Steet, along with urban art installations and zip-lining at Foley Square. Or you can just stroll along and experience the city’s streets free of congestion and honking cabs.

“The streets belong to all New Yorkers, and everyone’s invited,” New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner (DOT) Janette Sadik-Khan said in a press release. “Building on this summertime tradition, New Yorkers can ride high on Summer Streets’ first-ever zip line and take part in dozens of activities for all ages.”

The DOT has given out more than 50,000 free helmets to date and this year’s helmets feature a new color scheme. The City Department of Environmental Protection is providing drinking water fountains along the route and free bicycle and rollerblade rentals will be available at select locations. Bike New York will be onsite teaching Learn to Ride bicycle classes. The Uptown Rest Stop will also feature a football toss with NFL Play360.

View the route and make your plan for Summer Streets.
