Looking for a way to get your creative energy fired up? FIGMENT NYC 2012 is returning to Governors Island this weekend! This free, family-friendly and participatory event will fill the island with more than 200 interactive art projects – many of them made from recycled materials. In addition, all visitors can bring a game, an experiment, a request, a challenge, a guided meditation, a performance based on audience input, a sculpture that moves or responds, or anything that encourages people to create together.

An interactive LED light display called Silent Lights could turn the Smith and 9th Street area of Brooklyn into a dazzling light show! The project repurposes the noisy traffic under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, transforming it into an illuminated showcase of colorful lights. Silent Lights has already received a $5,000 grant from the NYC Department of Transportation, and is launching a Kickstarter campaign to cover the rest.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering what cheese made from human breast milk would taste like, today’s your lucky day. Opened just this past Thursday, artist Miriam Simun is transforming Michael Mut Gallery in the Lower East Side into “The Lady Cheese Shop,” where she’ll invite visitors to taste cheese made from breast milk.
