The FIGMENT Festival Brings a Creative Recycled Art World to Governor’s Island

Plastic Fantastic by Diedra Krieger [8] is a 16 foot buckyball-esque geodesic dome made using over 6,000 recycled water bottles. Some of the bottles had colorful messages inside of them from passersby who participated in making the dome by popping their water bottles into it.

Artist Theresa Galeani [9]blazed a trail of yarn and recycled fabrics with her installation entitled “Optimism.” Crocheted chains were draped across a patch of trees on the island, leading passersby to follow them and see where they led.
