We’re big fans of the Hester Street Fair, so we were absolutely ecstatic to hear that it’s found a new indoor home at The New Museum. Rechristened the Hester Street Café, the indoor eatery officially opened today for the colder months. The new spinoff, located at 235 Bowery, will be serving a curated list of menu items from the small businesses that normally sell at the fair – Saxelby Cheesemongers, Heritage Meat Shop, and the Baking Soda Shop, just to name a few.

Like the popular Lower East Side community market, the café will feature the best of New York’s small business community and present a seasonal menu that changes over the year. For the opening, Duck’s Eatery is overseeing the food menu, which includes Melt Bakery ice-cream sandwiches, McNulty’s teas, Pain D’Avignon Baguettes, and a kale salad with roasted cauliflower and hazelnut.

Of course the new café won’t detract from all the usual Hester Street things going-on. You can sill expect the Holiday Market to open up later this December and the fair in the park to return when it warms up outside. The Hester Street Café at The New Museum is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm and Thursdays from 11 am to 9 pm. What are you waiting for? Head out to the café for lunch right now!
