Hitching a DSLR to the underside of GorillaPod bike, Olesnevich was able to snap images via infrared remote while riding. Called NYC by Bike, the unique images take the viewer on a diverse tour of many of the city’s neighborhoods and boroughs including Times Square, Chinatown, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
The proximity of the lens to the ground and blur of the images give a sense of the precarious nature of the project. What if there had been a puddle? Or a collision? Olesnevich says he has had the camera fall off once, leading us to believe he must be a bit of a daredevil at heart. When the athlete himself is the one capturing the photos, you know you’ve come across extreme sports photography!
