Gallery: Uhuru Creates Neat School-Inspired Desks Out of Reclaimed NYC ...

Uhuru represented Brooklyn in the first Core77 Open with the Strap End Table, a reference to school days past. Look at these stacked sections of reclaimed antique pine held by thick strips of leather, just like belts cinching a pile of textbooks.

Uhuru compiled their collective memories of elementary school desks to create this functional piece that can be used as a desk or table. As a twist, these Rhode Island School of Design grads used the metal from the scaffolding as the legs.

Uhuru is a design + build furniture company dedicated to sustainability and creating timeless designs. They hand build each piece in their Red Hook, Brooklyn studio.

All pieces in the 12 x 12 exhibit were auctioned off with proceeds benefitting Brooklyn Woods.
