Located at the industrial end of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the UM Project’s workshop is a place where “personality, function and purpose” are combined to create locally produced objects and furniture with a sustainable touch. It took three week for the studio, led by its founder François Chambard, to build six pieces that will be part of the Reclaim NYC auction. The materials, which were reclaimed from storm clean-up sites, were combined with details acquired through donations.
Through their involvement with the Reclaim NYC initiative, UM Project shows how great design can be created using locally sourced materials in an imaginative way. The debris from a devastating storm is thereby transformed into a body of creative material. By auctioning its “Sandy objects” at the Reclaim NYC auction tonight, UM Project turns its creativity towards Sandy relief efforts.
