Did you know that there are eels living in Staten Island? The slippery creatures add to the Staten Island Bluebelt’s ecological diversity, but they also do double duty as indicators of the borough’s award-winning, stormwater management system, which preserves natural drainage corridors like ponds, streams and other wetland areas.
