Last week, One World Trade Center was finally crowned the tallest building [2] in New York City, beating out the reigning tallest, the Empire State Building. To document and honor the construction of the long-awaited tower, EarthCam has released a time-lapse movie which documents construction from 2004 to 2012. The poignant film is the result of Earthcam [3]’s live-streaming internet cameras, which captured the rise of New York’s most symbolic building. Watch the video after the jump.

Earthcam’s video documents the $3.9 billion project [4] that is scheduled to open in late 2013 or early 2014. When completed One World Trade Center will reach the patriotic height of 1776 feet, which will include 1,368 feet of building space and a 408 foot spire.
