New York has no shortage of curiosities, from Times Square‘s Naked Cowboy to Catman Charlie. Now, Instagrammers are reporting that a mysterious piano has popped up in the East River. It’s not floating on a barge or sitting on platform – it’s literally submerged right in the water underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, and eager pianists have even been wading out to try and play it.

No one knows who or what dragged the particular piano into the water, but Gothamist reports that it was first spotted last Monday. Unfortunately, the waterlogged keyboard does not quite play any more, but it does make for some very dramatic and picturesque photos.

The unknown origins of the East River Piano and the murky waters have not stopped pantomimes from taking advantage of the enticing photo opp. But the Department of Sanitation may take it upon themselves to remove the piano soon, so if you want to take a pic with it, head on down to (fake) play a tune before it’s gone.
