Gallery: NYC’s Hester Street Fair Launches a Greenmarket This Weekend!

Calling all New Yorkers! The Hester Street Fair just got better. This coming Sunday June, 20th — which just so happens to be Father’s Day — will be the inaugural day for the Hester Street Greenmarket! Come down and visit the Inhabitat team at the Fair, do some shopping for your pops, and pick up your veggies for the week. They’ll have produce, fresh pasta, farm-fresh eggs, a cooking demonstration, and freshly baked pies for your locavore taste buds to drool over.

Chef Sasha St. Germaine of Broadway East will be doing a cooking demonstration featuring farm fresh ingredients. The market will have plump Jersey vegetables, fruit, and homemade preserves from Phillips Farm, specialty and wild-foraged greens from Woori Farm, orchard fruit, award-winning cider, all-butter pies and pastries from Breezy Hill Orchard, and fresh eggs and pasta from Knoll Krest Farm.

The Hester Street Fair is located on Essex Street and Hester Street between the East Broadway and Delancy F train subway stops. It has a rich history of market goodness dating back to the 1800′s when the New York Times wrote about the market: “there is hardly a square foot of ground in Hester Street that is not covered with people during the day. The whole place seems to be in a state of perpetual motion, and the occasional visitor is apt to have a feeling of giddiness.” The mood hasn’t changed much since then, but these day’s you’ll find vintage wears and handmade goods from local New York artisans. Now that NYC’s latest Greenmarket will be joining the Hester Street Fair it’ll be your one-stop green shop for everything you need.
