Honestly, would you eat your favorite pet? A family member? To some people, their pets are like their children, like a part of their family. I have a horse of my own, and she's one of the best friends that I'll ever have... she's always there to listen, and there when I need a run, a hug, a kiss, or even a little trouble for a bad day... So tell me, would YOU eat a part of your family?
I wish that Obama would have NEVER signed that contract, and I'm sure lots of other people doo...

I don't see why it's morally wrong to eat horses, any more than it's morally wrong to eat of any other animal flesh or plant materials.

Life feeds on life people, it's what we do. Just because certain living things don't have cute little human-like hands, or a "face", or the ability to vocalize, doesn't make it any less alive or lesser of a being than we.

Yet, no one laments for the fruits and vegetables who sacrifice themselves for our table.

Everyone is missing the point, we should all take note of the way the American Indians lived: slay a buffalo, thank the Great Spirit for the sacrifice that your "brother" made to nourish your family, and show your appreciation by not squandering any bit of it that can be used.

Plants and animals, eat them and appreciate them as equals...for they become you.

I think it is a good thing there is no where for sick and injured horses to go. I love horses and have horses but if they are feeding people in need then so be it. Besides are horse market has dropped so low people are giving them away or turning them loose maybe this will bring it up. Hopefully the slaughter house in Ft. Worth Texas wll re open Texas has more skinny horses than u could beleve they are starving at least if they are killed they arent suffering and some little child has a meal.

What is next slaughter houses for our dogs and cats to ship across sea for those countries that eat those also. I have horses and I think that those who choice to eat horse meat can build their own slaughter houses for them. All I see happening is the president and congress saying these things are all right.

I doubt commercial horse meat will ever become viable in the US, at least for human consumption. Whether you're a vegetarian or not, slaughtering old horses originally used for riding etc. and converting it to, say, dog food, is the green option. Why let them go to waste?

I think this is a step in the right direction. I don't think commercial horse meat will ever be economically viable in the US, at least for human consumption. Additionally, it would be nice to do what was done years ago with old, dying horses; make use of them for dog food. Vegetarians may balk but whether you eat meat or not, dogs do, and not letting this resource go to waste is the greener option.
