It takes a certain kind of sensitivity to design a country home that is both rustic and modern, but Fearon Hay has a lot of experience striking such a fine balance. Located on the eastern side of New Zealand's Great Barrier Island, the self-sustaining Storm Cottage operates entirely off-the-grid. Powered by the sun and protected by it with a series of operable metal screens, the north-facing home stays cool in summer and warm in winter.

    This Great barrier Island is in New Zealand not Australia. Quite different places especially if you talk to a New Zealander. Perhaps Australia does have a Great Barrier island but then the link you provide takes you to Great Barrier New Zealand and the Architects are also from new Zealand. Nice cottage though.
