Villa Tantangan [1] enjoys a remote off-grid location and is thought to be the first fully sustainable villa of its size in Bali. Word of Mouth [2] focused on minimizing the project’s energy consumption with solar panels [3] and natural ventilation. The residences’ flat roofs are beautiful oases planted with shrubs that provide insulation while helping to integrate the villa into the lush surrounding environment.

LED [4] lighting has been incorporated throughout, and a back-up generator is available on-site in case the sun fails to shine. The villa overlooks a serene garden designed by landscape architect John Pettigrew, who planted the green site with a variety of rare cacti as well as trees and flowers.
