We’ve raved about OHIO Design several times since we fell in love with the company’s innovative furniture back in 2005. So we were super excited to run into OHIO again at the Dwell on Design conference this weekend and discover that they have been massively prolific since the last time we checked in with them. You may (or may not) remember me waxing lyrical about the beauty of OHIO’s unique photo transfer process, where they print photographs directly onto wood for a stunningly surreal effect. They only had a couple of pieces using this unusual technique the last time I looked – but in the past year it appears they have produced at least 6 or 7 seven gorgeous new pieces. Some feature tranquil foliage scenes; others provocative figures (the bed looks a bit naughty); still others have an ironic edge, like the giant termite creeping up a wooden sideboard (recently featured in I.D. Magazine).
But my favorite piece by far is the side table printed with an image of a pile of logs. The image is close enough in material to the real thing to create a sort of trompe l’oeil effect, where it looks like your side table may actually be made out of a pile of logs. I can’t get enough. Did I mention they use renewable FSC-certified woods, too?

Wow, not sure about these guys. The ‘simple’ designs look like walmart furniture. The ‘natural’ deigns don’t seem very designed. I wonder how much they charge for these things. That being said, the print on furniture is a great idea, too bad the blank canvas is so hideous.

Hi, i’m loving the work and its great that your using fsc-cerified woods. I’m doing interior design in collage and we have to design an eco friendly piece of furniture. i actully designed a coffee table with a leave print on top. i am not actually making the coffee table, but for collage i need to know how i would produce it. i would love if you could help me out. thaks for listening, your work is great.
just a thought. when you do decide to critisize its always good to give link to your port folio, or atleast add something constructive to your critisism, like what do you mean, “natural designes don’t seem very designed.
I’m really getting tired of peoples negative unconstructive, “comment” critisisms. It just more pointless complaining from the unhappy western average joe
