The transformation of Oslo [2]’s Skyline consistently pushes the boundaries of modern architecture, and the city’s latest trio of crystalline skyscrapers further define what could be referred to as the Nordic aesthetic. Danish architects C.F.Møller [3] and Norwegian practice Kristin Jarmund Arkitekter [4] were recently named the winners in a competition to design three office towers in Oslo. This futuristic project, which has been dubbed Crystal Clear, consists of stacks of prismatic cubes [5] with clear jagged edges that emerge from the ground and gracefully stretch upward, illuminating the majestic northern sky.

The architectural masterminds behind this project were hand picked from Copenhagen, Aahhus and Oslo. This dream team will focus on sustainable and environmental initiatives in order to considerably reduce their complex carbon footprint. Partner and architect Mads Mandrup Hansen states, “Our ambition is that this project will be a large-scale demonstration of our many experiences gathered in sustainable design over the last years.”

The towers will be replacing a former post office just next to the Central Station, and will contribute to the city’s plan to transform its town and port into a contemporary and lively waterfront. Together the three buildings total approximately 90,000 m² of offices, commercial space and possibly housing. Oslo is the cultural, scientific, economic, and governmental center of Norway, and the aesthetic sophistication and integrity of this project serves to reflect the importance of this modern city.
