- Nearly 300 Pakistani garment workers are dead after a boiler-related explosion triggered a fire last Wednesday. Few options of escape were available to the trapped workers: every exit except one was locked and most windows were barred, leaving many Americans to make comparisons to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fires of 1911. With a shoe factory fire claiming 25 lives in another nearby city, the Pakistani manufacturing industry is now under scrutiny.
