The Round House is designed for a site in the idyllic Spanish landscape, surrounded by lush almond groves, a glittering lake and distant mountains that frame picturesque views of the Cretas region. The home is elevated on stilts in order to give its inhabitants an ideal panoramic view of the landscape. Visitors climb a central staircase into the middle of the living space, which is surrounded by panoramic walls.

The circular single-level home features four bedrooms, bathrooms, storage and living spaces. Sliding bedroom walls create flexible spaces that can be tailored to suit the residents’ needs. All of the walls can even be opened to create one huge open plan. The curved glass curtain walls also slide open to connect the interior directly to the Spanish landscape and welcome in cooling breezes.

The central staircase leads up to a roof deck, which features a small garden, seating area, and a small pool with unbroken 360-degree views of the terrain. Johnston Markee’s Round House harmonizes with the landscape while allowing its inhabitants to bask in the beauty of nature from any point in the home.
