The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) [1] begins in just a few days! As the conference is crucial for countries to reach an agreement about how to mitigate climate change in the years to come, it is no surprise that cultural programs and changes in the landscape of the city of Copenhagen [2] call for greener living. Yesterday, we reported about Copenhagen’s Christmas tree this year being pedal-powered [3] and today, we have another interesting development. Thanks to architecture-firm 3XN’s [4] Gotham luminaires and Scotia Light [5]‘s solar-powered street lamp, the path to the conference center will be lit by solar power [6]!

3XN and Scotia Light worked together to create seven solar-powered street lamps [7] at the Bella Center, where the conference will convene. According to the two companies, the lamps should produce more energy [8] than they use. Gotham presents a green solution to the world’s need for carbon neutral outdoor lighting, and is just one of the smart ways in which Copenhagen is setting a green example in their city as the world watches.
