Paula Artzen Unveils Mesmerizing Lamps That Are Inspired by Nature at Dutch Design Week
Paula Artzen’s work was hanging beautifully in a dark room at the huge Eindhoven design event in an exhibition called MIX’D. She usually finds inspiration in nature, like she did with her vulnerable yet powerful “Butterfly” collection. For her latest work, she was inspired by the drawing on a book by German biologist and philosopher Ernst Haeckel — “Kunstformen der Natur” – released back in 1904!
Haeckel’s book is full of all sorts of detailed drawings of organisms from the natural world, including plants, birds and sea creatures. The designs are characterized by a strong symmetry and attention to detail, which can also be seen in Artzen’s brilliant designs. For her latest work, this young Dutch designer opted for polypropylene, a material that is stronger and more durable than paper and can be recycled.
