Another way in which we can do our part is by reducing the number of cars out on the road and increasing the amount of carpools. Many people believe that they wouldn't be able to find anyone to carpool with, but through the many commuter/carpool websites out there, there is definitely a way. I've tried Craigslist and eRideshare, but one of my favorites is Amovens.com. It's easy to post rides or find commutes. They even host holiday give-aways, such as a free $25 gas card for people who successfully set-up a carpool for the week of Thanksgiving. By providing options for commuters, that'll definitely encourage more and more people to to go green. A well-known Canadian journalist who was rabidly against bicycling ranted about how cyclists always broke road laws. He was invited by a blogger to go for a bike ride and he enjoyed it immensely, but he saw the hazards most cyclists had to avoid, which also forced them to ignore traffic rules. I think Philly did right by cyclists in providing this lane and I hope that it gets expanded and it spreads to other cities.
