The beautiful Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto is a place to disconnect and reconnect. The eco-luxury resort is off the beaten path, on a remote mountainous bay on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico. Villa del Palmar is a short drive from the small town of Loreto, Mexico, an environmentally conscious town just a two hour flight from Los Angeles. The area is rich with both history (having been founded in 1697) and bio-diversity. The Bay of Loreto was named a World Heritage site for its National Marine Park in 1996, and the area is known for its safety. Villa del Palmar emerges from 4,000 acres of desert, and it’s designed to blend in with the mountains surrounding it.

Each of the 181 rooms have oversized balconies, ranging from deluxe studios to two- and four-bedroom suites that feature gorgeous views of the Sea of Cortez and the neighboring Isla Danzante. Because of its remote location, the Palmar wanted to respect the beauty of the area and leave as little footprint as possible. The resort itself is painted to mimic the red rocks of the surrounding terrain. The roofs are lined with solar panels that collect and store power from the nearly 365 days a year gorgeous sunny days. Instead of building a disruptive pipeline to the town to pump in water, Palmar features its own seawater recycling system, which purifies water from the adjacent Sea of Cortez on site, for guest and system use. Grey water recycling helps to irrigate the chilis, produce and herbs growing in the gardens on the property, which are used in the three restaurants.
