The article should have elaborated what the Z6 goals are.
Specifically, the Z6 list goes this way:

* Zero Energy: Energy efficient lighting and appliances, smart heating/AC control system to reduce power usage, photovoltaics for more than 100% of power needs.
* Zero Carbon & Zero Waste: Recycled materials & Cradle to Cradle inspired materials. Carbon off-set included in purchase price to counter energy used to create the home.
* Zero Water: Low flow water fixtures. Grey water ready system.
* Zero Emissions: No VOC paint. Formaldehyde-free millwork.
* Zero Ignorance: Real time feedback on energy usage.

this is very exciting news. one of the greatest challenges of prefab really taking off has been the high per/sf costs. it’s great that this is a home that not only less than $200/sf, but that it’s LEED platinum. kudos to LivingHomes.

at 179,000 it makes it so much cheaper to buy a plot of land and put one of these up then it is to buy a house that’s already built – at least where I live

$145/sq foot for a home of this caliber is really impressive. The C6 is really breaking down barriers with this low cost, high design home.
