Physicists Discover How to Teleport Energy

One of the biggest challenges of building a sustainable future is figuring out how to efficiently move people and objects from one place to another. Electric cars [5] and biofuel-powered planes [6] might be the answer in the short-term, but now a physicist at Tohoku University in Japan has figured out how to teleport energy [7] from one point in the universe to another.
The energy teleportation technique is based upon research that shows it’s possible to teleport information from one location to another [8]. According to MIT [9], “The process of teleportation involves making a measurement on each one [of] an entangled pair of particles. He points out that the measurement on the first particle injects quantum energy into the system. He then shows that by carefully choosing the measurement to do on the second particle, it is possible to extract the original energy.
Heady stuff, but essentially it means that you can inject energy [10] at one point in the universe and extract it from somewhere else without changing the energy of the system as a whole.
Realistically, this doesn’t have any practical implications right now — it will remain in the realm of theories about quantum mechanics — but it’s fun to imagine what it could eventually lead to. Human teleportation? Quick transportation of aid to places that need it immediately (ie Haiti [11])? What do you think — could teleportation be the ultimate green technology?
