Chances are, you will never see a piano concert like this one again. In a symbolic performance organized by Greenpeace, acclaimed Italian composer and pianist plays an original composition entitled “Elegy for the Arctic,” while he and his piano float in the Arctic Ocean. The Wahlenbergbreen glacier outside of Svalbard, Norway provides the backdrop, calving icebergs into the water to punctuate Einaudi’s chilling melody. The musical piece was inspired by eight million voices from around the world calling for Arctic protection, and Greenpeace is urging the OSPAR Commission to protect international Arctic waters under its mandate.
