There’s nothing ho hum about the Shoe Supply store in Antwerp. Located in a discreet portion of this Belgian city’s retail district, the owner wanted a design concept that would get everybody talking. But Pinkeye’s radical idea to transform the store into an upcycled classroom took some convincing.
The team was lucky to find a school that was closing and no longer needed their desks and lamps, and then upcycled them to create a hip, funky spot that is maybe even cooler than the shoes on sale. Combined with a few new decorative pieces that give the store a modern balance, the recycled items helped the designers meet their tight budget. And the formerly skeptical client has become an upcycling convert!
