Pixel Qi Creates Super-Efficient and Cost-Effective Solar-Powered Tablet

by , 06/07/11

Pixel Qi, an American-based company who specializes in low-power consumption screens, is currently making plans to replace eInk screens with the solar powered tablet. According to Pixel Qi, they’ve developed a way to power a tablet entirely from the sun by installing a solar panel that generates 1W of energy — this is enough to power both the screen and the motherboard.

The interesting thing about the new technology is that this solar array costs only about $3, and most impressively, through a specially designed lower-powered tablet, the system could potentially be charged for days or even weeks without needing to plug it in.

The panel can also be modified and installed in the bezel of a tablet. Although there’s no definite information on when this technology will be on market, we sure like the concept.
