This charming mesh-wrapped garden in Osaka provides a small family with just the right amount of nature to spruce up their urban home. Koseki Architect Office hung tiles to the wire surrounding the cubic garden, transforming what might have been an ordinary space into a pixelated work of art that lights up at night. Ivy is already creeping up the side of the wire, while the remaining plants and flowers are kept in a controlled environment inside the enclosure.

The designers placed the small garden adjacent to the Oh family’s small, naturally-finished home, where window slices permit a soft infusion of daylight and ensure constant views of the new garden. Sliding glass doors further ensconce the connection between the built and natural environment and send a breeze circulating throughout the house.

When living in a city lacking abundance of all things green, a simple intervention like this beautiful garden really can create the happiness that often comes with being close to nature.
