Other contenders included biofuel and other alternative energy vehicles, all competing to see who could maintain an average speed of 31 miles per hour while gleaning the most out of their green power source.
Fifty kilometers per hour isn’t much–just 31 miles per hour–but that’s still a reasonable driving speed for alternative energy cars built for city driving. Toyota Canada engineer Vinh Pham drove the winning Prius with his navigator Peter Nytko. Their plug-in Prius averaged 76 miles per gallon over the course of the rally.
