If you’re a New Yorker who likes architecture, we’ve got an exceptional 5 day event starting TODAY at the Storefront For Art and Architecture Gallery . Inhabitat is getting together with BLDGBLOG , City of Sound , Subtopia and Storefront to put on what promises to be a groundbreaking series of events from today, Tuesday, May 29, to Saturday, June 2, 2007 . I will be attempting a pecha-kucha presentation at 6:30 pm, so be sure to come by if you want to see me embarrass myself! The other speakers should be good though – so be sure to come by.
Here’s todays line-up:
Tuesday 29 May
3:00 pm: Robert Krulwich
3:40 pm: Tobias Frere-Jones
5:00 pm: Stanley Greenberg
5:40 pm: Michael Kubo (Actar)
6:30 pm: Geoff Manaugh (BLDGBLOG), Dan Hill (City of Sound), Jill Fehrenbacher (Inhabitat) and Bryan Finoki (Subtopia) in a back-to-back pecha kucha presentation followed by opening reception
TOMORROW’S EXCELLENT LINE-UP (Wed May 30th) includes a panel on sustainable design featuring Susan Szenasy (Editor of Metropolis Magazine), Allan Chochinov (Editor of Core77), Graham Hill (Founder of Treehugger), and me. This is an open forum on sustainable design, and we are actively looking for questions from you – our readers, so please write in the comments if you have any questions you would like us to address.
POSTOPOLIS will be 5 days of continuous conversation about architecture, urbanism, landscape, and design blogging. We have an amazing line up of speakers that includes Lebbeus Woods , Mark Wigley , Ada Tolla & Giuseppe Lignano of LOT-EK , Michael Sorkin & Mitchell Joachim , Michael Bierut and William Drenttel , among others. In fact, we have so many great speakers that I am planning to be there for 5 full days straight to catch it all. Even if you can only pop by for an hour or so on one day, I highly encourage you to stop by and say hi. The event is free and open to the public and is sure to be a good time.
By inviting four bloggers from four different cities, to host a series of live discussions, interviews, slideshows, panels, talks, and other presentations, New York’s Storefront for Art and Architecture aims to fuse the informal energy and interdisciplinary approach of the architectural blogosphere with the immediacy of face to face interaction. For the past five years, blogging has helped to expand the bounds of architectural discussion; its influence now spreads far beyond the internet to affect museums, institutions, and even higher education. Postopolis! is an historic opportunity to look back at what architecture blogs have achieved – both to celebrate their strengths and to think about their future.
The Storefront for Art and Architecture is a New York City art gallery founded in 1982. In 1993 the building was renovated in a collaboration between architect Steven Holl and artist Vito Acconci to create a unique ground-floor exhibition space with moveable hinged facade panels that can be opened and closed to create different degrees of accessibility to the street and public. The space is not only an amazing work of architecture, but also a great gallery and event space, and we are very excited to be working with Storefront to put this exhibition together. If you live in the area, don’t miss it!
