A clever new device called Powerslayer aims to stop the vampire draw on electronics – that insidious power suck that happens when you leave something plugged in even after your device is charged. Velvetwire’s Powerslayer has the brains to know when your device is charged and can stop the power draw until the next time you need it. This not only saves power, but saves batteries as well. All you have to do is plug it in and let Powerslayer do the rest. No more vampire draw and no more inefficient charging.

Even after they have fully charged, your electronic devices continue to draw power. In fact, according to the Lawrence Berkeley National Institute, a mobile phone or laptop can draw at least half as much power after it is charged as it does while charging. That amount adds up, raising your electricity bill and potentially devouring your battery more quickly; plus it creates a negative impact on the environment. Powerslayer is designed to put a stop to all that.

Powerslayer is an intelligent charging device. The embedded software can detect when your device is charged and automatically stops charging. Once your device needs more juice, Powerslayer turns back on, delivering energy only when it is needed and stopping it entirely when it isn’t. This allows you to leave your device plugged in all day if you want without overcharging or needlessly drawing on the power grid.

Powerslayer works with any lighting, 30-pin or micro-USB charger and the prongs fold up nicely so you can take it wherever you want. It also comes in a variety of great colors. Powerslayer isn’t available yet, but you can get in on the action by supporting the Kickstarter campaign to get the charger out into the world.
