Architect Dustin Ehrlich has created a custom prefab home near Chapel Hill, NC. Commissioned by his parents and constructed by WIELER, the structure mixes stone, wood, stainless steel and rusted corrugated metal to create an extraordinary first, and lasting, impression. While undeniably modern, the structure’s aesthetic also draws on the local architectural styles of nearby tobacco barns from previous centuries.
The Ehrlich home matches 2,007 square feet of conditioned living space with 1,513 s.f. of outdoor decks, patios and courtyards tucked strategically into the building’s form. The design flows through spacious indoor and outdoor living spaces that appear to bring a new perspective to the surrounding forest setting at every turn.
Most of the structural components were built in the factory, minimizing construction waste and resulting in a pretty remarkable start-to-finish time of just four months from permits to turnkey. Thank you for showcasing another example of eco-architecture. I seek to build my own sustainable home/business structure which will jointly reduce both my personal and professional carbon footprint.
