If prefab styles can be categorized geographically, the kitHAUS is truly Southern Californian. Its luminous and airy interior, lightweight exterior, vibrant wood paneling and soaring windows almost create a mirage of the Pacific Coast behind the house no matter where it sits. kitHAUS offers a truly modular home – “the kind destined to revolutionize the conventional rules of prefab.”

The little house comes in two basic modules, both weighing in at a compact 256-sq-ft, with either a flat or slanted roof. The extruded aluminum frame and zinc exterior cladding make for a raw appearance in the Basic series. The addition of finished flooring, interior walls, bathroom fixtures and a deck come included in the Outfitted models, and if you order the Off-the-Grid model – made in partnership with solar energy company, Permacity Corp – you’ll also enjoy an energy-efficient an eco-friendly dwelling.

kitHAUS will be exhibiting at CA Boom later this month. As media partners, we’re offering readers a discount on admission, so if you are in the Southern California area and want to attend, click on the CA Boom link above. You’ll be able to catch kitHAUS along with numerous other designers at this annual West Coast design show.
