Michael Jantzen has designed a series of fun prefabricated retreats called M-velopes that can shift and slide into a variety of different shapes. Made from sustainably-grown timber and colored with either paints or stains that have no negative environmental impact, these functional art pieces range from simple to complex forms that can be placed either indoors or outdoors for an unconventional space to get away from the crowd.
Comprised of several different pre-fabricated sections, M-velopes are prefabricated and shipped just about anywhere in the world and bolted on-site. The complexity of the structure varies according to each buyer’s taste and a lot of attention has gone into ensuring that they have a relatively benign ecological footprint.
Depending on where it will be placed and for what function (indoor play or work space or outdoor wendy house), M-velopes usually require neither a foundation nor a building permit. But that really depends on the local building regulations so we recommend you check that out before having one of these shipped to your front door.
