SMPLy MOD Prefab Homes sent Inhabitat details of their latest prefab residential project up in Yellowknife. 131 Moyle is a modular duplex project that combines efficiency, modern design and compact affordability in the Northwest Territories. Each home features three bedrooms and two bathrooms smartly arranged and also achieve a high energy efficiency rating, making them 60 percent more efficient than a conventional home.
The 131 Moyle duplex is the latest of a series of dwellings SMPLy MOD Prefab Homes has built in Yellowknife, NWT. This duplex sits adjacent to their other duplex, 133 Moyle, and remains energy efficient despite the cold winters. The modular project was designed by SMPL Design Studio and constructed at SMPLy MOD’s factory in Alberta last winter. It was then transported to the home site in the spring and assembled and finished. Four modules were used to create the homes, each of which are 1,292 sq ft.
Based on the same floorplan, the homes each feature a large open kitchen and living room on the ground floor with a half bath. The upstairs contains the laundry, three bedrooms and a full bathroom. Finishes inside include zero maintenance exteriors, bamboo flooring, a bamboo backsplash, low and no VOC paints, on demand hot water heaters, heat recovery & efficient propane furnaces, and Caesarstone countertops for the kitchen spaces. Energy efficiency ranked high in the design process and each home has achieved an Energuide rating of 84.
