The problem with the Tesla is that once you hit the 200 miles that's it, you need to stop and recharge. The Euros are going to love this car, there are many cities that do not allow combustion engined vehicles. With the Karma you can drive to the city in sport mode and then cruise inside the city in a beautiful car, not a little mousetrap with wheels.

The New York Times stated that the electric car has long been recognized as “ideal” because it was cleaner, quieter and much more economical than gasoline-powered cars. They said that back in 1911. The Washington Post commented that “the same unreliability of electric car batteries that flummoxed Thomas Edison persists today”. The oil and car industry can stand on it’s own two feet without subsidizing. It’s not to say they don’t; I oppose those subsidies. Without the infusions of federal cash, the electric business would begin to dry up. Simple physics, gasoline has 80 times the energy density of lithium. Lithium breaks down over time but a gallon of gas is a gallon of gas. The 100,000 dollar Tesla roadster claims a range of 200+ miles; where as a 40 mpg Ford Fiesta has a fuel range of over 700 miles. Fisker could have raised all the money privately. DOE gave them 115 million dollars. If they we're to fail...........would they give the money back. But why is stimulus money being used to create jobs in Finland? Even if the cars were built in America, they'll still subsidize cost of the car. It's not hard to dupe government out of money.

But private sector does nearly everything better than government.

Lazyreader is a bit lazy (or call it misinformed):

''Fisker has gathered 1 billion dollars in capital for start up production. The Karma, which it plans to sell for $100,000 a piece obviously isn’t a family sedan.''

Well, a family will definitely fit in. It has more space than a Porsche Panamera. But this car is not presented as a 'family sedan', but as a four-door sports car.

''Didn’t Fisker get millions of dollars of federal stimulus money just like Tesla Motors?''

No, they didn't get anything. It is a low-interest loan that has to be paid back.

''They received millions of dollars so they could build a car, then they set up building the car in a factory in Uusikaupunki, Finland.''

They wanted to have the car build in the US, but no existing car manufacturer was interested. So they found one in Finland. Only after that came the government loan, which can only be used for development work in the US and for production of the next car (Nina) in the US.

''Fisker Automotive got the money then pulled it’s facilities out of Michigan where the jobs may have been needed the most.''

Bull. They bought an empty GM-plant (Boxwood) and are refurbishing to build the Karma and Nina.

''Is there anyone other than me who thinks this is a stupid idea to give them our god damn money!!! And don’t ever forget that was our god damn money.''

What do you think the Chinese and Korean governments are doing to support their car industry?

By the way, it's not 'our money', it's Chinese money anyway (which we borrow).

''Essentially what we’ve done is help to subsidize an expensive car that only the wealthy can afford to own. And they could easily have purchased it themselves, let alone put up the venture capital independently.''

New technology is always expensive at first and then prices come down and the goods become affordable. Happens with any new technology.

''Design wise is beautiful, it would probably cost less to have a gas version, and they could sell that.''

I think you are missing the whole point of this car. Unless you prefer to keep on funding the Saudis and Iranians every time you fill up?!
