After 65 years, high-end bridal chain Priscilla of Boston [2] recently announced that it would close all of its locations on December 30. Then, last week, dismayed onlookers outside of a Priscilla of Boston boutique in Edina, Minnesota watched as men destroyed unsold wedding dresses [3] worth thousands of dollars with spray paint instead of donating them. Why would anyone do such a thing? The practice of destroying unsold inventory is not so uncommon, unfortunately. Many companies destroy perfectly good products in order to “preserve brand identity.”
