Gallery: PROJECT EARTH DAY 2008: Student Fashion Competition

The annual Project Earth Day Student Fashion Competition was held this past Thursday as part of the Project Earth Day fashion event, and featured an impressive mix of young designers from schools such as Parsons, Pratt Institute, Colorado State and Savannah College of Art & Design. Given that many of these students are interning with both eco-label designers as well as conventional fashion houses, we are optimistic that the future of sustainable style looks impressively strong as the next generation of students coming out of design programs seems geared up to truly make a difference in an industry and a commercial sector that is increasingly becoming aware of the importance of going green for good!

Our very own Jill Fehrenbacher was one of the five judges for the event along with Janie L. James (The Moderns), Summer Rayne Oakes (Eco-fashion activist), Sass Brown (Professor at FIT), and Tracy Backus (Teknion).

GRAND PRIZE WINNER: Amira Marion (Parsons)

Second Place Winner: Maritza Romo de Fusco (Parsons)

Third Place Winner: Judy Lee (Parsons)

Judy Lee caught our eye with her bright, bold, geometric (yet surprisingly wearable) constructions.
Judy received $350 and a gift bag from event sponsors.

Honorable Mentions included Ashley Newsome and Daphne Woo….each of these designers received $50 each and a gift bag from event sponsors.

Congratulations to this year’s competition winners and ALL of the talented designers who presented their amazingly creative and bold designs on the green fashion runway. We look forward to seeing more inspiring work from all of you and keep up the sustainable design goodness!
