Get ready eco-fashion loving New Yorkers! Project Earth Day – the fabulous green runway show / fashion design competition is coming to the Teknion showroom TONIGHT, from 7-8pm. Anyone who
Anyone who reads Inhabitat with any regularity knows that we love our eco fashion almost as much as we love green architecture and new technology . We believe in the interdisciplinary nature of design innovation, and love to see sustainable design collaboration across different industries. Thats why we are such big fans of ‘Project Earth Day’ – the annual NYC sustainable fashion event put on by the Emerging Green Builders (EGB) NYC chapter within the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) . Although it is put together by architects and interior designers, this inspired green take on the ‘Project Runway’ design competition always features interesting up-and-coming designers, and can hold its own with any fashion industry event. This year’s line-up features all new designers, and yours truly as a judge on the student fashion competition! I can’t wait..
We had an awesome time at last year’s event, and would encourage anyone who is interested in attending to get in touch with the organizers ASAP. The RSVP list is already full and the space is small, but you may have some luck in the next couple days if you plan ahead:

Show organizer Molly Garretson explaining her philosophy on green design – in a Bahar Shahpar dress.
What does green architecture have to do with sustainable style – you might ask? Organizer Molly Garretson explained it this way: there has been an upswell of interest in green design everywhere this year – in green building even more than green fashion. Sustainability is an issue that cuts across all design disciplines and in fact, brings disciplines together under common strategies and a common purpose. “EGBNY members are young, creative professionals in the building, architecture and interior design fields,” says Molly Garretson, EGBNY member and the fashion show liaison. “We wanted to throw an event that would not only be fun, but would bring together similar creative, eco-conscious people in another yet related area of design.”
Kudos to that! Viva la interdisciplinary eco design!
Here were some of our favorite looks from last year’s 2007 show:
