Nearly 3,000 people signed an online petition this week to protest the Port Authority of NY and NJ’s orders to kill snowy owls on sight at John F. Kennedy airport in New York City. The Port Authority made the decision as a safety precaution after a nesting owl was sucked into the engine of a plane, but animal lovers found the measures extreme. The airport is now considering other options such as trapping the birds in a humane way.
