AllForTheGreen: "Yes, you missed the fact that the vast majority of people who’re _____ enough to water lawns, are the same types that don’t understand the basic concepts of gravity and hydrology."

Wow. Pea brain in the house... perhaps the "lawn" or maybe a organic garden is above the collection system. Had you actually thought about it... never mind... you are not capable of a thought...

caeman: Water collection may be lower than the food being watered so in this instance a solar pump would be handy.

Yes ya'll missed the main points and clearly you have no idea that the world is not flat. I can not easily collect and store water above the point of need. My site is a bit remote - I do not have a place to plug in a pump nearby but I do have sun shine to work with. I bought this pump on-line at http://www.aquabarrel.com/rainperfect and it runs at about 3gpm and does a nice job too

Yes, you missed the fact that the vast majority of people who're _____ enough to water lawns, are the same types that don't understand the basic concepts of gravity and hydrology. Anyhow, I would think the obvious issue with this article is that there's absolutely no way that tiny solar panel is 3.5 Kilowatts. 35 watts at best, maybe? Typo?

I love tech, I am an IT geek by trade, but...if you place your rain barrel 1" above the highest point you will water with the collected rain, you don't need a pump. Am I missing the target problem for this solution>

a 3.5kW solar panel cost around $22,000. I think you ment 3.5 watts
