Gallery: Recycle Your E-Waste at NYC&#...

Hey New York Readers!

If you live in New York City, we hope that you’ve made it down to the new Hester Street Fair in the Lower East Side. The awesome flea-market/street fair opened in May, bringing together local craft and food vendors to sell their wares, and recently added a Greenmarket in June. Now we’re excited to announce yet another local green initiative for the neighborhood fair — Hester Street Fair has partnered with Lower East Side Ecology Center to set up an e-waste recycling center this weekend! So dig those old broken and outdated electronics out of your closets and drawers and go to the Lower East Side Ecology Center website to find out what you can drop off THIS WEEKEND!

The responsible disposal of electronics is crucial to the health of our environment. In 2007, 2.24 million tons of electronics found their way into landfills — taking harmful materials like lead, nickel, cadmium, and mercury with them. The EPA believes that electronics are safe in landfills, however parts of your e-waste can be re-used which cuts down on the need to dig up new minerals.

It’s incredibly important to recycle your old electronics properly, so if you can’t drop off your old electronics at this event, we strongly encourage you to find other places that will accept e-waste!
