With the plethora of abandoned automobiles on the planet, it is good to know that there just might be creative reuse for the valuable materials that remain once vehicles make their way to the scrap pile or local junkyard. Begoodesigns aims to do environmental good by recycling old leather car seats, armchairs, and ‘decoration articles’ into artisan-crafted totes, laptop bags, and sandals. Based in Montevideo, Uruguay, this super-hot forward-thinking company is creating high-quality, handmade products in order to prevent toxic fume pollution (created by burning leather) from escaping into the atmosphere. We salute their efforts and totally love their stylish ‘salvaged’ products and recycling agenda.

If you are planning to go green with a Cherrypal PC, consider a recycled carseat leather laptop bag from Begoodesigns to tote it around in. This fabulous laptop bag is truly retro with its seventies-style patchwork flap design. The sand color tote accommodates a standard size laptop and has a padded lining made from grey recycled car seat fabric. It also comes with an adjustable leather strap and four larger interior pockets as well as a separate pocket with strap for the laptop itself. Even if leather is not really your thing, it is good to know that you can get some extra mileage out of materials that have yet to go the distance!

Begoodesigns is a member of 1% For The Planet and also supports local artisans and employs fair labor and trade practices. They formerly created gorgeous leather necklaces from the leftovers from their bag and sandals manufacturing in an effort to find a use for every scrap of waste. It’s great to see a company doing good by being good eco citizens in both their craft and environmental outlook.

This is a great idea. I love bags and products like this. There’s a new trend happening too, creating online stores that feature this kind of product, such as http://ecofriend.us and http://evo.com. They simply aggregate great products like this and show them off to potential buyers. I hope the idea of not just the ecological impact, but also the economic impact becomes an important factor too. There are ways of saving money and being green at the same time.
