Gallery: Recycled POTOGREEN Planters Disguise Parisian Parking Poles as...

While British youth are setting buildings on fire to make their voices heard, Parisians are making a much more gentle statement with these POTOGREEN planters. Disgusted with the ugly globe-crested anti-parking poles that have taken over many roads, Paule Kingleur from Paris Label created these adorable hanging gardens to spruce up her city. The pocket gardens consist of a ring of four recycled canvas bags that contain a variety of small plants that form a hanging garden. In addition to generating a renewed spirit of public participation that encourages local citizens to beautify their city, Kingleur's botanical gardens are also great for the environment!

The planters are made in part from recycled milk containers and fabric recovered from tents that are made by people undergoing rehabilitation at Emmaus, realizing, according to Kingleur, a further two dimensions of the POTOGREEN project; namely sustainable development and economic solidarity. The aluminum inside the milk containers ensures that the planters won’t leak, while the exterior canvas keeps them nice and dry. Shop owners, residents, school children, and other citizens are invited to get their very own planter and reclaim their favorite urban space!
