Designed by Pugh + Scarpa in collaboration with Rethink Development and Consulting, Cherokee Lofts is slated to become the first privately developed LEED Gold certified mixed-use project in Southern California. The development is scheduled for completion in early 2009 and will house 12 lofts and 2,800 sf of commercial space. All this in a modern and very green package- what more could you ask for?
Paying homage to the formal occupant, the Cherokee Recording Studios (previously MGM Studios), the Cherokee lofts aims to blend highly sustainable elements with a twist of innovative design. Pugh + Scarpa took efforts to repurpose the materials of the existing recording studios, reusing the walnut wood paneling currently found in Studio 1. Two of the twelve units will contain space dedicated to those wanting an in-home recording studio designed by the Cherokee Studio’s founders.
Integrating sustainable features often found in Pugh + Scarpa designs, the Cherokee Lofts will make use of photovoltaic arrays, a recycled aluminum façade, advanced heating and cooling systems, LED lighting, FSC certified wood and a green roof. Each of the twelve units will be unique, ranging from 1,000 – 2,000 sf and will take full advantage of the various different views and use of daylighting.
The Cherokee Lofts is the inaugural project for Rethink Development and Consulting. Founded in 2005, Rethink Development focuses on leveraging high-performance building technologies and green practices to deliver higher value, healthier, and more environmentally sound communities and workplaces for the future.
