Located on the banks of the beautiful Seljord Lake, the black shelters [1] were raised on stilts with minimal impact on the ground. They were created as part of a workshop with the help from students and teachers from the Politecnico in Milan [2] and the Norwegian Theatre Academy [3]. A raised path pierced by trees was built to bring people into the shelters, slowly revealing the beauty concealed behind the structures.

A few bridges, also made from locally-sourced wood, were placed around the shelters, so people with bikes or wheelchairs can also have access. Contrasting with the pitch-black color that was used on the outside, the sauna’s [4] wooden interior was left naturally untouched. Simple and humble, this group of Nordic [5] shelters makes it easier to get into the landscape.
