While walking the halls of ICFF 2011 we couldn’t help but be captivated by Ross Menuez‘ delicate felt Icosa Lamp, which was showcased by Areaware. Breathing new life into a material generally associated with clothing and crafts, Menuez turned the soft-to-the-touch material into a lamp fit for the most uncompromising modernist.
The Icosa lamp measures 12″ x 12″ x 12″, and its structure was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s legendary Geodesic domes. Muenuez’s take transforms the soft felt into a stable, crystalline form. The felt shade is the perfect filter for producing a soft and welcoming glow – one would never guess a fluorescent light shines from within!
